Dear Guest,
Like so many, since the September 11 tragedy I have been simultaneously saddened, angered, confused, and hopeful.
I came to the United States more than 25 years ago, and have been fortunate to earn an education and build a happy life in this country. However, the image of my beloved adopted homeland, the United States of America, has suffered significantly.
We know that the actions of a few can shape and distort the perceptions of a culture or even an entire country, so I decided that I could do the same – but in this case to help the world better understand
people living in the United States and, equally important, for the United States to better understand those throughout the world.
I have had the good fortune to travel extensively and spend time with people in other countries. Because of this, I know the cultures we are exposed to by the mainstream media may not be an accurate snapshot of how life really is in these locations. In fact, if the people in these countries saw these portrayals, what they would see would be even foreign to them.
I have spent my entire career working with film and video, and it is through the medium of moving pictures that I will make my response in these difficult times, specifically through the formation of CULTURESonFILM., an educational project with a bold mission:
Diffuse hatred and prejudice through documentary films that expose viewers to unrealized elements of cultures from every country in order to encourage each other to expand our horizons and challenge ourselves to discover the oneness of life and the interdependence of all beings.
This is a labor of love – a large scale project in need of large scale thinkers who are dedicated to and believe in the genuine beauty of their communities, without judgment or prejudice.
The collaboration of filmmakers around the world is an important element in the project’s theme. Bringing together the efforts of these talented individuals from all over the world for a singular project is symbolic of the mutual cooperation, understanding, and respect we must have for each other in order for the world to find harmony.
Sincerely,
Adam Soch Williams, Founder
