LOS ANGELES – A new nonprofit organization, CULTURESonFILM, has set its sights on uniting the world through film.

Started by Adam Soch, a native of Romania, CULTURESonFILM puts the camera in the hands of passionate and honest filmmakers from around the world, delivering an intimate look at the lives of everyday global citizens into classrooms, offices, libraries, and to ordinary folks around the world.

Volunteer filmmakers from across the globe will make 60 – 120 minute non-political, unbiased documentaries focusing on the lifestyles, values and attitudes of their particular countries. Each film, created by an experienced, independent filmmaker in each respective country, will provide viewers with an enriched appreciation for the country’s culture through in-depth interviews with the country’s people, showcasing their rich and colorful traditions.

“Our perceptions of other cultures are shaped by what we see everyday in the media,” Soch said. “Through honest filmmaking, CULTURESonFILM allows each of us to learn more about our global neighbors than what is portrayed in a headline or sound bite.”

CULTURESonFILM documentaries will be available free of charge for any schools, corporations, libraries, individuals and civic organizations via the CULTURESonFILM Digital Library.

CULTURESonFILM has outlined four major programs to initially focus on producing:

• THIS IS MY COUNTRY, MY CULTURE
This program will shine the light on the over 200 independent countries that make up our world community.

• STATE OF THE WORLD: 2007-2008
Through this program, CULTURESonFILM will create a permanent snapshot of the issues facing the entire world community today.

• CONTINENTS OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY
This will be a 7-part series that will explore the geographic, economic, ethnic, and cultural diversity of each of the 7 continents.

• SPECIAL PROGRAMS ABOUT STATELESS PEOPLE
The Palestinians, the Kurds, ethnic minorities of the Great Lakes region of Africa, the Roma People and the Banyamulenge people are some of the estimated 11 million stateless persons living throughout the world. CULTURESonFILM will create special programs to shed light on the culture of these stateless people, who are often forgotten in the world community and the media.

CULTURESonFILM is a nonprofit organization whose goal it is to use film in illuminating the world’s citizens in a non-political, unbiased fashion. The spirit behind CULTURESonFILM is simple: With a glimpse into the diversity of our world, we may recognize that it takes more than one note to create harmony. Exploring this diversity of voices may help us to discover that there really is more that unites us that divides us. We may discover what is universal within the individual. We may even discover that the 'them' exists in us, as well.
